Dances and smiles
Once again, the notorious cute smile has done it to me once again. If I could pick the one single thing that attracts me, it would have to be the smile. Hands down.
I recently checked out a book called A Brief History of the Smile by Angus Trumble. Interesting book. Well, the 5 pages of the book I read were interesting. Needless to say, I didn’t have time to really delve into it and now I have to run to the library during lunch to pay my overdue book fine.
And you probably didn’t need to know that.
Anyway, this summer, my roommate got me watching a show on Fox called So You Think You Can Dance. From the creator of American Idol, this show features people from all over the country who, well, think they can dance…and in true AI form, eliminate each dancer one by one until one is left standing. You of course have your complete morons, who think they can dance but really can’t…and you have your share of totally talented dancers who definitely make the cut. All in all, a very entertaining show. The show explores all kinds of dance, from Broadway to hip hop to ballroom each one unique, fun, and beautiful. I’m not a big dancing fan. Actually, I’m probably one of the worst dancers ever. But there is something about a girl rhythmically moving to music that is captivating.
A few stuck out at us during the course of the show, but one that really stood out was Allison Holker. She is an exceptionally talented dancer from Orem, UT and almost made it to the very end, but was cut a few weeks early. She nailed every dance routine that was thrown at her; one of my favorites was a slowed-down hip hop routine she danced with Ivan (another dude dancer) which was masterfully created by choreographer, Shane Sparks. It was beautiful and romantic, but with a little bit of edge. And it was performed brilliantly.
Not only that, but Allison is as talented as she is beautiful. Her smile could light the darkest corners of the world. And that’s all I have to say.
Well that and maybe, “Shake it, baby, shake it.”
