So I’m sitting in my room and it totally smells like a grilled cheese sandwich gone totally wrong. I have no idea what the roommate was doing before I got here…but I have a sneaking suspicion he’s behind this odiferous scenario.

I’m sitting here putting finishing touches on a video I should have had done a year ago…but being the chief procrastinator I am, I am still working on it. It will be done soon, though, and I can finally move to the next chapter of my life. It shall be a glorious day. Angels will sing, a heavenly beacon of light will shine down from the sky.

Speaking of beautiful things, it was a gorgeous day today, folks. Unfortunately I slept most of the way through it. But what I did see was absolutely amazing. No photo shoots this weekend…but I should have booked at least one since it was so amazing outside.

Those of you not in San Diego, feel free to be a little jealous. ;)

So most of you probably know I love photography. I am a photographer, after all. :) I love everything about it…the very essence of it, capturing one single moment in time for all eternity. Being able to stop time for just one second…and being able to take that moment and put it in your shirt pocket. There’s something magical about it all.

Tonight, my grandma was showing me some pictures she had found buried in a box. They were old, slightly faded, sepia toned. The edges were ear-marked on some and most of the people in them were people I had never met. They were old family pictures. My dad was small enough to fit in my grandpa’s arms. My uncle had the same looks and expressions that I can remember. My grandpa was a big, buff dude. My grandma was young and beautiful…even with the HUGE, goofy sombrero on her head. I’ll definitely have to get a copy of that one…soooo internet worthy. :)

Everyone looked so serious…it’s funny how no one smiled back then. My grandma says it’s because taking pictures back in the day was an ordeal…and by the time the shot was taken, no one was in the mood to smile. Can you imagine working with models back then?

It was a different time…but the time is secured forever on a tiny 3 by 5 frame of paper. And here I am a half a century later sharing in those moments…and laughing at my grandma’s sombrero. And you know what?? It’s still magical.
