Mid-Week Update

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 10:33 am

I am sitting here at work waiting for my system to do its thing…also thinking about the buritto I’m going to obtain at lunchy time. But I thought I would write a few thoughts…

I finally announced the opening of the NGS Media web site. I have been developing it for the past month or two trying to get it to look just right. We are going to use it as the center for all of our stupid videos and as a portfolio for clients that want to hire us for videography work. I’m very happy with the way the site looks. Brian and I have sold 2 copies of the Madrigal Dinner DVD so far and the videos are on their way to the hopefully-soon-to-be-happy customers. I’ve been a little video crazy this week, posting at least 3 and working on a couple short ones. I hope to have the Vegas and LA clips up soon as well.

Free speech?

Filed under: News — Aaron @ 8:44 am

When the founding fathers got together and thought they would write up this thing called the Constitution, I think their original plan was to support the development of new ideas and the right for people to express these ideas in an open forum.

What I don’t understand is how lately people have used the Constitution as a crutch, saying that they are being censored. It’s happened quite a few times, but in this case with Michael Moore and CSUSM…I personally feel that if the university wants to ban a speaker from their campus, then they have every right to do so and are not in the wrong. Moore has every right to speak…he can stand on a soap box in the middle of the street for all I care. Saying he is being censored is a bit extreme. Perhaps to an extent he is, but the University does have the right to ban him from the campus.

I consider myself to be politically a little left, but I constantly find myself annoyed because this guy is always running his mouth. And I put up with it because he does have the right to say what he wants. But a university, even though it’s a state university, is in no way obligated to allow a partisan speaker like Moore to speak on their campus. Allowing a visitor to come and speak is a privilege that can be allowed or revoked at any time. It’s like inviting a friend over to a house…you can ask them to leave at any time. So if Michael Moore wants to talk, pull up a box and start talking, man. no one is stopping you from running your big mouth.

On another note, I have seen a few speeches. Aside from being ugly and fat (no offense intended), he is not the most eloquent of speakers. He may have extreme liberal ideas (some of which I myself don’t even agree with), but the thought of someone voluntarily going to hear him speak is funny to me. I also noticed that he will be speaking at the Del Mar fairgrounds at a cost of $10 per person (if you aren’t a CSUSM student). I guess speech isn’t that free, now is it?

General patheticosity…and raisins

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 11:14 am

I was just reviewing my web site and it dawned on me that I have been pretty pathetic about posting lately. Actually, lately is an understatement. I only have like 2 posts this entire month. What can I say, September has been pretty slow. lol.

Ok, what’s new with me…well, nothing really. Work is pretty interesting…we are still in a testing phase for our new broker platform that we’ve been hearing all about for the past year. Honestly, I think it’s a piece of crap as it takes hours to do something that used to take minutes. But hey, that’s technology for you. The more advanced things get, the harder they are to fix. I remember when I was little and the radio in my dad’s car wasn’t working…all it took was a not-so-gentle smack with my hand and I had it working again. I must have been eight or something like that with absolutely no fix-it skills what-so-ever. But I have the gift. Hopefully they will get this platform working…I think it has the potential to be really cool.

Donnie McClurkinOh, really good album, if you like the gospel/R&B feel…one of my co-workers is letting me borrow the new Donnie McClurkin album, …again…and it is really good. Some really nice, soulful tunes on this one…and a really nice rendition of The Prayer (made popular by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion). Check out more at DonnieMcClurkin.com.

Now that the Madrigal Dinner is complete (in the DVD production phase now), I can begin some other little video projects, such as putting together some clips of Vegas etc. I’ve also been putting a lot of time into the development of the new BrianMounts.com, which should launch soon. Just adding some little cool things and trying to get more content from the man himself. Really excited about this one…it’s been a few weeks in the making and planning and looks pretty sharp.

I usually don’t have dreams…I don’t know what’s wrong with me. But last night I had a really weird one involving my friend, Katrin, her brother Lukas, and a lot of raisins. Very strange.

Well, must get back to work and think about what I’m going to eat for lunch. Decisions, decisions.

13 Going on 30

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 1:52 am

I have once again confirmed the fact that I am a chick…when it comes to movies. I seriously cannot get enough of chick flicks. I’m not sure if it’s the cute heroine or the mischief she gets into…or how she always gets the guy in the end and everyone lives happily ever after…but they are just fun movies. Seriously ladies, I am a catch. I don’t know any other guy who would be HAPPILY willing to sit with you for an hour and a half and watch a girly girl movie…and actually enjoy the movie. Feel free to shoot me an email if you need a date to the movies. =)

But 13 Going on 30 was a cute flick…I’m surprised I didn’t see it until now, but I am a little bit of a slacker when it comes to those kind of things. And of course, Jennifer Gardner is absolutely adorable in this movie. All in all, great cinematic choice for the evening.

Looking forward to yet another kick back weekend.

Sunsets

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 2:59 pm

I haven’t posted in a while, but I just haven’t been motivated to write anything meaningful. Perhaps later today. But, I thought I would post some pictures in the gallery. There’s a lot of stuff in there I forgot about…I finally posted the pictures from 2002 Madrigal Dinner, in the Point Loma Singers album. Those are pretty fun. I also finally started my Sunsets album. I’m on this quest to get the “perfect” sunset…and because though there isn’t such a thing, I thought I would post the pictures of sunsets I’ve collected. Really pretty stuff…and what makes me want to stay in California. The east coast may have awesome sunrises…but we will always have the best sunsets. More later, probably…

Superhero Rule #1

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 9:42 am

Superhero Rule #1: While driving on the freeway, drive in the far right lane. Or if you are daring, the far left. But for more practical purposes, the far right.

Why, you may be asking? Well, if you see a damsel in distress and you are driving in the middle lane, you won’t be able to pull over in time to help her…and by the time you pull off the freeway, back track, flip around yet again, and get to her, another superhero may have beat you to the punch.

This happened to me yesterday while driving home… a cute girl had pulled her spunky red Jetta off the freeway and she was digging in her trunk, for what I can only assume was her spare tire, and I could not get over fast enough because I was in the #3 lane. Thinking to myself, “I should help her!” I pulled off the freeway, but had to drive north to another exit and then drive back south. By the time I got to her, another dude was helping. Now, I’m glad she had a nice guy pull over and help her…that’s the point, right? I just wish I could have been that nice guy. Changing tires is my speciality. Well, maybe not…but I have changed a few in my time. And I am a nice guy, after all.

Rule #2 should be “Always wear your underwear on the outside of your pants…unless of course you are going out in public, then you should reverse that and wear your underwear on the inside.” Now, there are always amendments to the rule…like, if you are wearing blue spandex with bright red and yellow underwear, then by all means wear it on the outside, you trend-setter, you!

I’m so looking forward to the 3-day weekend. Yesterday was killer! I have no idea why, but EVERY SINGLE FILE (and that is not an exaggeration) that I touched had problems that required running around, calling around, and basically going the distance to get fixed. I hit the bed hard and early yesterday. I’m going to need the extra day just to recover from the Friday from hell.

And on that note, I’m off to enjoy my three-day weekend. More later.

YOLO

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 9:31 am

I was sitting in my favorite sandwich shop the other day, The Deli Stop in Kearny Mesa, and this beautiful girl walks in. I noticed her, but continued to eat my sandwich and read the paper. These days, I’m doing lunch solo, which is fine by me. It looked as if she was going solo as well, as I noticed her holding a book as she ordered her sandwich. She sat at the table next to me and began to read her book. This would have been the perfect moment to go up to her and say something cool, something memorable, and something impressive. The problem is you don’t know each other. And if you did get the balls to say something, what do you say? Again, I will say it…many missed opportunities in life that way. I ended up missing my chance because some of her friends came and sat with her. Again, these types of things work best one on one and it’s very rare that you have those odds in your favor. Most of the time, girls are with their friends, so you miss out on the chance. And what are the chances we will be in that deli at the same time ever again? I mean, they do make good sandwiches, but come on…

Which is why I thought this site was cool. YOLO means “You Only Live Once,” and really advocates the whole “Carpe Diem” idea. I first heard about it while watching Average Joe: Adam Returns. Yeah, I know…I will admit to watching reality t.v. But the girl that lost out, a very cute Rachel Goetz, used this phrase in how she approached the whole concept of reality t.v. and dating. So I thought it was kind of cool. The only thing left for me to do now is grow a pair and talk to the next cute girl I see sitting alone in a sandwich shop. We’ll see if that ever happens.
