A little bit of action

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 1:01 am

Had a nice, low key weekend … so what else is new? It was nice, though. Beautiful weather, although I didn’t make it out to the beach this weekend. Maybe next weekend. Got to do a little bit of recording, which haven’t been able to do in a while. There’s just something about chilling in my room and playing my guitar. It was nice to have the place to myself.

Saw a little bit of action on my way to the grandparents’ house today. While I was on the freeway, I happened to have my police scanner on and heard some street names that I recognized. So, I pulled out my camera and drove over to the gas station on Euclid where stuff was going down. It was on the very route I usually take to my grandparents’ house anyway. The police had observed a stolen car with four people inside … and in situations like this, they do what is called a “Hot Stop,” or a felony stop. What usually happens is each person is pulled out of the vehicle at gunpoint and then the vehicle is secured, making sure there are no weapons involved. This of course is for officer safety … I mean seriously, who wants to get shot?

As I approached the intersection when the gas station was, police had already blocked every street leading to the gas station. I had an excellent vantage point from where my car was stopped, so I was able to snap a few pictures of the officers taking two of the suspects into custody. All in all, the whole thing lasted about 10 minutes, and without any major incident.

It’s tempting to upgrade…but I think I’ll hold on to my “ancient” 10GB iPod a little while longer. Give it a few weeks. =)

Caedmon’s Call

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 12:36 am

Tonight was the Caedmon’s Call concert. It was absolutely amazing! Talk about a wonderful, inspirational, an uplifting time of worship. It was a lot of fun. They opened with Hope To Carry On, and performed favorites like 40 Acres, Walk With Me (which is one of my favorite songs from Back Home), This World, and Lead Of Love. They even did a cover of Paul Simon’s Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes. One of my favorites of the evening was the title song from their new album, Share The Well — in introducing the song, they shared a little bit about their time in India, Ecuador, and Brazil and told the story of the well and the call that we have as Christians to go out into the world and share the gospel with people that are thirsty for the Word. Cliff Young shared the importance of getting involved in church, something that has been hitting me hard lately and challenging me in my walk. All in all, it was a good time. After an amazing altar call led by Pastor Ray Bentley, Caedmon’s closed the concert with Hands Of The Potter, a very rhythmic and upbeat tune and another favorite of mine.

Caedmon's Call

Being able to worship tonight was an amazing experience … and I’m going to try and attend Wednesday night services at Maranatha more often. It was just such a good feeling coming in on Wednesday night, being able to enjoy some good music but also to be uplifted and challenged. I do have to admit, however, I was a little disappointed earlier today. Lately, it seems like all my friends have different priorities and agendas. And these priorities and agendas don’t seem to include me. That’s all right with me, since I’m used to doing stuff on my own. I would like to be able to share time with friends like I used to. Everyone seemed to have somewhere else to be … and I understand that. There is nothing wrong with that. But sitting there tonight, despite the fact that I had a good time, I really wish I could’ve shared that with someone else. I met some nice people there which was nice … but the whole time, I must have thought about at least a dozen people I would’ve liked to be there with me. Just a little sad, I suppose.

Well, since it is so late, I think I’m going to wrap this up. There is about a million thoughts floating through my head all wanting to get out at the same time. I do want to share what has been going on in my heart and in my head lately, so when I have time I’ll do that.

A Big Thanks to Alexander Graham Bell

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 8:59 am

Alexander Graham BellIt’s so amazing the things you can do with the telephone now-a-days. For instance, you can be in your car, or in a public restroom, or in an airport, or in a park and still be easily accessible. People can still call you. And you can still call them. Sort of a funny feeling. Cell phones are so common place that we sort of take them for granted. But taking a call whilst your sitting in the john is quite an experience. Not that I’ve ever done that before. But finally, we can be more productive. It’s not like we can’t be more productive already if we are in the bathroom, right?

But last night, I made my very first international call…to wish Katrin a happy birthday…all the way in France. Here I was, sitting in a room in California at 10 at night talking to a girl just waking up in France at 7 in the morning. How cool is that? Technology bringing us closer together. It was good to talk for a bit…I contemplated singing Happy Birthday, but I decided to save it for a time when I wouldn’t wake the neighbors in my classically trained, operatic voice. My voice is very powerful. And gorgeous. But it was great to talk to Katrin, as always.

Caedmon’s tonight!!

Caedmon’s in San Diego

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 10:09 am

Thirty three hours…and counting. Caedmon’s Call will be performing at Maranatha Chapel tomorrow night. I will definitely be there. If anyone wants to go, let me know. Should be a good time.

This is pretty neat…had a letter sitting outside my door when I got home yesterday. It was an autographed photo of Bethany Dillon. Really sweet. =) It’s on my wall.

Things are really slow here at work. I have two more files in my drawer, a half-eaten box of Cheez-It baked snack crackers, and the batteries in my iPod are low. It doesn’t get any more pathetic than that.

I’m going to find some people to harrass via email. More later.

Little Megs is 21

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 6:07 pm

Had a nice time last night hanging out with friends…Little Megs turned 21, so Brian and I barbequed a ton of meat. Megs brought her roommates Tiffany and Melinda…and AJ, Cara, and Daniel joined us in the meat-eating festivities. After dinner, Deanna came over and we all drove out to the Hotel Del Coronado for a little “Expose Yourself” and drinks. ALL of the ladies looked incredibly sexy, I must say. I’ve said it before…I will definitely miss Megs when she moves to Sac-Town. Pictures are posted in the gallery, so check them out.

It’s been one incredibly hot day today. I have to say. That’s about it.

Double or Nothing

I heard about this new reality show special on the radio this morning…essentially, you sell everything, and I mean everything you own, take it to Vegas, and bet it all on one spin. Crazy?

That Jeopardy Guy

Filed under: News — Aaron @ 9:10 am

I enjoy watching Jeopardy, even if I can only answer about a fraction of the questions. However, Ken Jennings of Utah, as of last night, has won 31 days in a row and accumulated over a million dollars in prize money. I have yet to see him play, but I have tuned in the last couple of times to see how he does in Final Jeopardy…and each time, it’s exciting to see this normal guy win over and over.

Drastic Changes

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 9:55 am

It’s moving day here at UBOC…everyone is playing musical cubies. We hired on some new people, so the underwriters shuffled cubes and they built out a few offices…so now I think we are pretty much where we are supposed to be. My neighbor, Cyndi, has moved to the corner…so I can no longer shoot rubber bands at her. But I guess that’s a good thing because she can’t throw balled-up Acco fasteners at me anymore. You could put an eye out with those things.

In other news, I decided to give myself a haircut. It’s sort of like a bachelor who only knows how to cook one thing, like scrambled eggs or peanut butter sandwiches — I can only cut hair one way, and that is short. =) So I have no hair, at least for now, reverting back to my PLNU days. My thought is, “it’s just hair, it will grow back.” And even though it doesn’t look the best, it will be a nice change for a while. And like I said, it will grow back. I was tired with dealing with it.

And more changes still…I have installed Gallery and will be using this amazing piece of work on my website. Soon, I will have more pictures up and better quality pictures at that. I was getting tired of all the work I had to do just to publish a picture on my website – the resizing, the layout, etc. I was spending too much time doing tedious, stupid things. Now, it’s as easy as uploading my pictures. Too simple. I love this program. Right now, I only have three galleries up, including my Public Safety gallery and pictures from Las Vegas and LA. So check those out and be checking back for more pictures. I hope to post way more as the days go by (I have a LOT of pictures that need to be seen). Well, back to work.

Jeff and Jer | Places you’ll never visit again

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 8:48 am

I had the worst time getting up this morning, it was pathetic. I must have slept through my alarm for a good 10-20 minutes, which I’m sure my roommate appreciates. I seriously did not even hear it. I usually hit snooze, but could not collect the mental and physical energy to do so. However, as I was slipping in and out of consciousness, I heard someone talking about Yermo on the Jeff and Jer showgram this morning.

For those of you who don’t know what a Yermo is, it’s a town on the way to and from Las Vegas. Yermo is a hole. Brian and I stopped there on the way back from our Las Vegas excursion for a bathroom break and a burger (not simultaneously, of course). This deserted town is pathetic…but I’m not sure if the whole town is like that. I wasn’t surprised when I found that they were talking about Yermo in a segment of their show they called “Places you’ll never visit again.”

Beach competitors vie for sand dollars | The San Diego Union-Tribune

I told myself that today would be a great beach day…but although I didn’t make it out to the beach today, I thought i would post a story about some people that did.

It is so hot right now…and I’m not exactly sure why. Summer is here…that’s for sure. Gonna try and make it out to the beach next weekend maybe…we’ll see how the weather is. Hopefully it’s as nice as it was today.

Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 12:01 am

OK … There were WAY too many cars out today. I have absolutely no idea what was going on today, but I do think of a lot of people should have stayed home. Even the drive home tonight was insane … It was 11:30 p.m. and there were still a lot of cars on the road. For the love.

Had a nice relaxing day today. Slept in a bit (well, a lot later than usual). Also did a little cleaning around the house. My dad and I spent the afternoon hanging out… drove up to Caramel Mountain Ranch and went to Carvin; I got some guitar picks. Then we went to Costco and I bought some cheese. I had really been needing a grilled cheese sandwich…so I made some.

Last night, some friends were over visiting so we saw Win A Date With Tad Hamilton … cute movie. Really cute girl.

Hopefully there won’t be so many people out tomorrow. We’ll see.

Socks and other interesting things

Filed under: General — Aaron @ 11:41 pm

Well, there is just so much exciting things happening in the life of Aaron. For starters, work was just a hoot. Some exciting news … I have been selected as the “Blue Recycle Bin Monitor” In an effort increase security and reduce the likelihood of sensitive information being stolen by janitorial staff and other nosey people, we’re being told to lock up all files and paperwork with customer’s names on it. Considering that we have probably never had such incident, management is forcing us to take extreme precautions. In this day and age, where identity theft is a crime on the rise, you can never be too careful. My primary duty as the Blue Recycle Bin Monitor is to make sure each blue recycle bin is emptied every night. This is to prevent bad people from digging through our trash. Even though I have been assigned this very important duty, I’m not getting extra compensation. Oh no … I’m doing it because I am a nice guy.

In other news, I am happy to report that the construction next door is nearly complete. I must say the new look of Stumps is pretty good. However, Stump’s Apple Market is no longer … it is now Stump’s Family Marketplace. Maybe now I can sleep in past 5:30 without the racket of hammers and other construction-like equipment being operated.

I also folded some socks today. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they fold their socks. I used to ball mine up … but then I moved to the “pair-and-fold” method. However now, I almost do a sort half-fold … this allows the socks to stay together in the drawer but also allows me to quickly grab a pair and slip them on in no time at all. How do you fold your socks?

Well, I think I’ve successfully wasted a good amount of time writing this. It’s amazing how I can talk about nothing for so long. Most likely, you do not care about any of the things I’ve mentioned above and you probably feel dumber having read this entire entry. For that, I apologize. I hope some interesting things happen to me in the near future so that I may write about them and share them with you fine people. You will be happy to know that I’m slowly converting this site to a database-driven web site, so that is pretty cool. Check out my newly designed Links page and my Words page.

That is all for now. Good night.
