DAY ONE – Wednesday, June 16
We packed up and left San Diego at around 9:30, but not after a quick stop to pick up a friend. After fueling up in Escondido, we were on our way. The trip itself wasn’t too long…we got to Vegas in no time at all. A few highlights of the journey included the random thunderstorms we encountered just outside the California-Nevada border. Also worth mentioning were the cute girls in the silver Mercedes-Benz. They must have followed is all the way from San Diego…we kept taking turns passing each other up, flashing curious glances at each pass. We lost them when we got off the 15 in Las Vegas. It was very sad.
It must have been 102 degrees when we pulled into Vegas. After checking in and dropping our stuff in our room, we decided to explore a bit, so we walked down to the Venetian and then to Treasure Island. We at ate the TI buffet for dinner…crab legs, prime rib, mashed potatoes, and chocolate eclairs for dessert. Yum.
After dinner, we walked and checked out the Mirage and the white tigers. Super! And since we had nothing better to do, we headed back to our hotel and hung out for a bit at the pool. The lifeguard was really cute and it was hard to say goodbye when she came to lock up the spa.
After a quick shower, I was ready for another strut down the strip. We checked out the MGM Grand and New York, New York. We even hung out at the Coyote Ugly bar for a bit at New York, New York. Very cool. The bouncers even let us in without paying cover…and the girls, of course, were smokin’ super sexy. After a drink (a quasi-caucasian, or not-quite-white-Russian) and being dowsed with pitchers of water by the girls, we slowly made the walk back to Harrah’s. Once back at the hotel, we went to the La Playa bar next to the Harrah’s casino, where they had a dueling piano bar. I fell in love there too, by the way. The piano players were twins — really cute girls with wavy blonde hair. When Kim, one of the twins, started singing Let It Be, I melted…even when her sister (who’s name I can’t remember) started to interrupt her to sing Sweet Caroline. And I was really impressed with their rendition of Billy Joel’s Piano Man. Kim and her twin sister sort of reminded me of this girl that was in my tennis class at Point Loma. Ironically, the girl in my tennis class was also named Kim…and she would always team up with me because everyone else in the class had paired up and we were always the last two left. She also beat me at every match. I let her win, of course. ;) I have always told myself that I would marry a girl that could play the piano…and since I was in Vegas, I thought I would propose to Kim and run to a chapel…but it was getting late, so we headed upstairs and crashed for the night instead.
